As a Sociologist and Associate Professor specializing in Asian studies at Aix-Marseille University, my expertise lies in the Sociology of Quantification, Political Sociology of China, and Sociology of Education. My research delves into the dynamics of what I term the "subordinate elite," encompassing women who excelled in the Gaokao exams during the late 1970s, as well as the emerging generation of Chinese elites who are pursuing opportunities abroad.
My doctoral research is centered on the Chinese National College Entrance Examination (Gaokao). I meticulously examine how various actors produce and interact with discourses of legitimacy, focusing on the themes of competence and effort. This analysis sheds light on the intricate processes that underpin the construction and maintenance of educational and social hierarchies in contemporary China. |
